Convert MP4 to a VTT caption file

VTT (WebVTT) is the caption format the web uses: it is what HTML5 video players, YouTube, and most streaming platforms accept for browser-based subtitles. SnailText makes a VTT from your MP4 by transcribing the speech and writing phrase-level timing, all on your machine.

You get a separate .vtt file, not captions burned into the video, so they stay editable and you can attach them in any player or editor that accepts WebVTT.

How to convert MP4 to VTT

Does SnailText burn the subtitles into the video when I use MP4 to VTT?
No. SnailText writes a separate VTT file and does not hardcode captions into the video. That keeps the subtitles editable and lets you attach them in any player or editor. If you want them burned in, overlay the file in a video editor afterward.
