Wispr Flow is cloud-only at $15/seat — polished AI auto-edit, but your audio leaves your machine and pricing scales by humans, not devices. SuperWhisper is a great Mac-first app with a $249 lifetime; we run equally well on Windows and have a free tier without a 15-minute timer. Voibe is Mac-only with no free tier and English-only UI. We don't try to be all of them — we're the cheapest credible option that keeps audio on your device and ships on Windows day one.

Honestly: our backend is built around subscription verification. Adding lifetime means a real refactor we haven't done. We'd rather start at $7.49 — the lowest credible price in the category — than ask $149 upfront for a half-baked promise.

The Pro tier covers ongoing development, model updates, the macOS notarization fees, the Windows code signing, and the cloud bits we do run (license verification, multi-device sync, support). Local STT is the product; the subscription pays for keeping it good.

You drop to the two free models. Your local data — history, dictionary entries, snippets — stays in place, but dictionary and snippet auto-replace stops running until you resubscribe (they're a Pro feature). Your account stays. The bigger models also become unavailable.

File transcription: yes, it ships today. The free tier transcribes files with the compact models; Pro adds the larger models for best quality, with no cap on how many files or how long they are. Cloud STT is supported as an opt-in where you bring your own API key, so it stays your account and your bill. AI cleanup of dictated text runs on-device for Pro, and it never auto-edits by default — what you said is what gets pasted.
