Wispr Flow is cloud-only at $15/seat — polished AI auto-edit, but your audio leaves your machine and pricing scales by humans, not devices. SuperWhisper is a great Mac-first app with a $249 lifetime; we run equally well on Windows and have a free tier without a 15-minute timer. Voibe is Mac-only with no free tier and English-only UI. We don't try to be all of them — we're the cheapest credible option that keeps audio on your device and ships on Windows day one.

Honestly: our backend is built around subscription verification. Adding lifetime means a real refactor we haven't done. We'd rather start at $7.49 — the lowest credible price in the category — than ask $149 upfront for a half-baked promise.

The Pro tier covers ongoing development, model updates, the macOS notarization fees, the Windows code signing, and the cloud bits we do run (license verification, multi-device sync, support). Local STT is the product; the subscription pays for keeping it good.

File transcription: no plans — MacWhisper does it well. Cloud STT (ElevenLabs, OpenAI Whisper API): on the roadmap as an opt-in for Pro users who want top-shelf accuracy without local hardware. AI rewrites (LLM cleanup of dictated text): we're researching it, but we'll never auto-edit by default — what you said is what gets pasted.
