Dictation in Jasper
Voice dictation in Jasper for briefs, prompts, and edits
Jasper generates copy from prompts, but it has no dictation of its own. SnailText lets you speak your briefs and edits into Jasper and cleans the text up locally.

AI dictation in Jasper, on your device
SnailText is AI dictation: a speech model turns your voice into text, then a second model cleans it up, dropping filler, fixing punctuation, and matching the style your work needs. Both models run on your own machine, so nothing you say in Jasper is uploaded for transcription. Press the hotkey, speak, and the finished text lands at your cursor.
Does Jasper have built-in dictation?
Jasper has no dictation engine of its own. Jasper generates marketing copy from a prompt you write, and its "Brand Voice" setting controls writing style, not voice input. Its own help docs point you to your operating system's voice typing for dictation. A dedicated on-device tool is more accurate and works the same way across Jasper and every other app. SnailText injects text at the OS level, so it works in every Jasper field on Mac and Windows, with a local AI cleanup pass.
Speech to text in Jasper: how it works
SnailText does not plug into Jasper directly. It runs system-wide: a global hotkey (Option+Space (Mac) / Ctrl+Space (Windows), customizable) starts recording, the local speech-to-text engine (Whisper or Parakeet) transcribes what you said, and the text is pasted at your cursor through the system clipboard, the same way it lands when you type. That means it works in every Jasper field, plus every other app on your Mac or Windows machine, with no extension or integration to set up.
That matters in Jasper specifically: a good prompt is a paragraph of context, and typing all that context is the slow part of using an AI writer. Speech to text removes that bottleneck without changing how you work in Jasper.
Voice to text in Jasper: what to dictate
Voice typing in Jasper is not limited to one box. Press the hotkey anywhere a cursor blinks and your speech becomes text, so the things you would normally type out by hand become things you just say.
- · Briefs and prompts telling Jasper what to write
- · Your own rough copy, dictated in, then handed to Jasper to refine
- · Edits and instructions to revise a draft
- · Brand and campaign notes
Talk instead of typing
Where typing slows you down in Jasper
- · A good prompt is a paragraph of context, and typing all that context is the slow part of using an AI writer.
- · Jasper has no dictation of its own, so its help docs send you to your OS voice typing, which is less accurate than a dedicated tool.
- · Iterating on copy means retyping detailed edit instructions turn after turn.
Example dictations for Jasper
Brief
"Write three variations of a landing-page headline for an offline dictation app aimed at developers. Lead with the privacy angle, keep each under ten words, and avoid the word "seamless"."
Refine
"Take the draft above and make it more direct. Cut the adjectives, keep the technical accuracy, and do not add any claims that are not in the original."
Brand note
"Our tone is plain and honest, never hyped. We say what the product does, not how amazing it is. Keep that in mind for every piece of copy."
