Does WhatsApp have built-in dictation?

WhatsApp Web and Desktop have no built-in voice-to-text for the message field. The microphone button records a voice note, which is an audio clip the other person plays back, not dictation that turns into typed text. WhatsApp did add voice message transcripts in 2025, but that transcribes voice notes you receive into text, it does not let you dictate into the message box. To send a typed message by voice you still need a system-wide tool.
