Convert AIFF to an SRT subtitle file
AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) is the lossless audio format native to macOS and older Apple tools. It is common in professional audio production, Logic Pro exports, and archival recordings. SnailText decodes the AIFF audio using a one-time codec pack, transcribes the speech with the Whisper model, and writes a phrase-level SRT, all on your machine.
Lossless input gives Whisper clean audio. You get a standard .srt file ready to use in any subtitle editor or video player.
How to convert AIFF to SRT
- Open the Transcribe files screen in SnailText.
- Add your AIFF audio file (or a folder of them).
- Choose SRT as the output before you run it.
- Run it. The .srt file is saved next to your audio.

AIFF to SRT free, without uploading the file
Online AIFF-to-SRT tools upload your audio to a server. SnailText does it locally: the file stays on your machine, there is no length limit, and the free tier has no watermark. AIFF uses a one-time codec pack the app downloads for you, then runs offline.
If you only want the plain transcript of an AIFF rather than a subtitle file, the AIFF to text page covers that. If you need VTT instead of SRT, the AIFF to VTT page covers that.
