WAV is the lossless audio format used by dictaphones, field recorders, podcast production workflows, and studio software. SnailText reads the PCM audio directly, transcribes the speech with the Whisper model, and writes a phrase-level SRT, all on your machine.

You get a standard .srt file ready to attach to a video or use in any subtitle editor. WAV works immediately with no extra codec download.

How do I convert a WAV file to SRT?

Does WAV quality affect the subtitle accuracy?
Lossless WAV gives Whisper clean input with no compression artifacts, which often produces more accurate results than a highly compressed audio format. Higher sample rates are automatically resampled to 16 kHz before inference.
What is the difference between WAV to SRT and WAV to text?
WAV to SRT produces a timed subtitle file (.srt) with start and end times per phrase. WAV to text produces a plain transcript with no timestamps. SnailText does both, you just pick the output before the run.
Does SnailText burn the subtitles into the video when I use WAV to SRT?
No. SnailText writes a separate SRT and VTT file and does not hardcode captions into the video. That keeps the subtitles editable and lets you attach them in any player or editor. If you want them burned in, overlay the file in a video editor afterward.
